Michael C. McDermott has been working in the field of forensic audio analysis and voice identification since 1978. He has received training in forensic audio analysis from Rockwell International, Voice Identification, Inc., Kay Elemtrics, the Michigan State Department of State Police, the New York Institute of Forensic Audio to name just a few. Mr. McDermott is a member of the American College of Forensic Examiners. He is a past chairman of the Board of Recorded Evidence of the American College of Forensic Examiners, past chairman of the Voice Identification and Acoustical Analysis Subcommittee of the International Association for Identification, past chairman for the Certification Board for Voice Identification Examiners of the International Association for Identification. He is a certified expert in Voice Identification and Acoustical Analysis by the American College of Forensic Examiners, the International Association of Identification and the International Association of Voice Identification. Mr. McDermott is also a certified expert in the field of audio authentication by the American College of Forensic Examiners.

His work using aural and spectrographic sound and voice analysis has not been limited to just the identification of human voices. He has used this technology in his work in the area of aviation accident analysis to identify aircraft transmission sources and pilot’s voices. In the analysis of cockpit voice recordings, he has used this technique to identify mechanical events such as switches and circuit breaker pops in an aircraft cockpit as well as gun shots
