Alison Smiley
Short Biography: Alison Smiley is president of Human Factors North, Inc. She has almost 30 years experience in the measurement of human performance, specializing in transportation safety and holds an Honors B.Sc. in applied mathematics, an M.A.Sc. and Ph.D. in systems design engineering, specializing in human factors. She is an adjunct professor in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at the University of Toronto where she teaches courses in ergonomics. She has presented workshops on human factors in traffic safety for traffic engineers, police, driver educators and traffic safety researchers. She is the 1997 recipient of the A.R. Lauer Safety Award given by the U.S. Human Factors and Ergonomics Society for outstanding contributions to the human factors aspects of highway safety. She is past chair of Transportation Research Board (TRB) Group 3 Council on Operations, Safety and Maintenance (1998-2001) and currently a member of TRB Committee A3B02, Vehicle User Characteristics.
