Barnes W. McCormick
Short Biography: Dr. Barnes W. McCormick, Ph.D., is well known in the aeronautical engineering community as the author of two texts, Aerodynamics of V/STOL Flight and Aerodynamics, Aeronautics and Flight Mechanics. The latter text is widely used as a reference and has recently been published as a second edition. Dr. McCormick is a fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and an honorary fellow of the American Helicopter Society. He has served as a consultant to many industrial, governmental and legal organizations. He is a past member of the Congressional Advisory Committee on Aeronautics and is currently the U.S. coordinator for the Flight Vehicle Integration Panel of NATO’s Advisory Group for Aerospace Research and Development. Formerly the chief of aerodynamics for Vertol (now Boeing Helicopters) and the head of the Department of Aerospace Engineering at the Pennsylvania State University for sixteen years, Dr. McCormick is now retired from Penn State but maintains an office there. He is an active consultant and still teaches an occasional course. He has participated, and given testimony, in many litigations and investigations involving aircraft accidents.
